Diabetes instructions for Otolaryngologic Surgery
Instructions for patients with Diabetes having Surgery

Please follow the general instructions also given to you regarding surgery, as well as those specific for the procedure you are having done.
Please do not eat or drink anything beginning the midnight before your surgery.
If you check your blood sugars at home, continue to do so. Your blood sugar levels may also be checked prior to surgery.
If you take insulin in the evening, take only half the dose the evening before surgery.

If you have questions, please call the office at 972.402.8404 and ask to speak to a nurse. You may leave a voicemail with your questions and after checking with the physician, the nurse will respond to your questions.
Your physician will order tests on you (e.g. blood tests, X-rays, or EKG) if needed before surgery. Be sure they get done at least 1 week before surgery.
Please try to follow these instructions carefully, in an effort to make the surgery as safe as possible.
